CMT vs Fully Factored Production: Which Model Fits Your Brand?

CMT and fully factored production describe different responsibility splits. The right choice depends on whether you already control the product, materials and technical package or need a broader manufacturing route.

Decision principleChoose the model based on who is genuinely ready to own sourcing, development and production coordination.

CMT: Cut, Make, Trim

In a CMT relationship, the brand normally provides more of the production inputs and technical direction. The manufacturing partner focuses primarily on cutting, making and finishing the garment to the supplied standard.

  • Best suited to brands with stronger product and sourcing capability.
  • The brand may be responsible for fabric, trims, patterns or technical preparation.
  • Commercial responsibility is narrower than a fully managed route.

Fully factored production

A fully factored route can include a broader combination of material sourcing, sample development, production coordination, trims, branding and packing. The exact scope still needs to be written project by project.

Why responsibility matters

The label alone is not enough. Before committing, make clear who owns sourcing, approvals, material minimums, quality criteria, freight and changes to the agreed product.

Where BrandsShipped fits

BrandsShipped is designed as a managed route rather than a single-factory listing. We coordinate the work your project needs and define the commercial scope before paid work begins.
