Guides/Minimum order quantities

Minimum order quantities

What Does Low MOQ Really Mean for a Clothing Brand?

There is no universal low-MOQ number that works for every garment. A commercially sensible minimum is created by the combination of product complexity, material minimums, colours, sizes and production setup.

Decision principleTreat MOQ as a product-specific feasibility question, not a headline promise.

Finished quantity is only one minimum

A factory may be willing to make a small number of garments while the chosen fabric mill, dye house, print process or trim supplier requires a larger minimum. These constraints need to be reviewed together.

Variants divide the order

A 100-piece order split across many colours and sizes can be harder to produce than a larger order concentrated into fewer variants. Setup and material usage matter.

Ask for feasible scenarios

  • What is viable at roughly 100 pieces?
  • What changes at 300 or 500 pieces?
  • Which materials or trims create the minimum?
  • What specification changes could make a smaller run feasible?

Use low MOQ as a validation tool

The goal of an early run is often to validate demand without creating unnecessary inventory. That only works if the product economics remain understandable and the approved standard can be reproduced.
