From concept to product

From Canva Mock-up to Physical Garment Sample

A mock-up is useful for communicating direction, but it leaves many production questions unanswered. The next step is to convert visual intent into decisions that can be tested physically.

Decision principleUse the mock-up as a starting reference, then progressively add the technical information the physical product requires.

Extract the product decisions from the image

  • Silhouette and intended fit
  • Fabric feel and weight direction
  • Construction details
  • Branding placement
  • Colours and visible trims

Add practical references

Reference garments, measurements or photos can reduce ambiguity. If you like the fit of an existing product, explain exactly what should and should not be copied from that reference.

Build the first physical version

The first sample is where proportions, material behaviour and construction become real. Treat it as a development decision point, not automatically as the bulk-production standard.

Approve a reproducible standard

Before production, align the approved physical result with the written measurements, materials, trims and branding instructions that the production route will follow.
