Approved Sample to Production: What Happens Next?

An approved sample is a major milestone, but it is not the whole production order. The next step is to verify that the product standard can be reproduced under the proposed quantity, materials and factory route.

Decision principleDo a production-readiness review before treating the sample as a bulk commitment.

Confirm the physical reference

Identify the exact sample that represents the approved product. Record any details that differ from older prototypes so there is one clear reference.

Align the written specification

  • Measurements and tolerances
  • Fabric and trim references
  • Construction and branding
  • Size and colour allocation
  • Packing requirements

Review quantity and factory fit

The proposed order needs to work with material minimums, production setup and supplier capability. If the route changes, a pre-production approval sample may be required.

Agree commercial and quality terms

Before production begins, the written offer should define price, payment stages, quality checkpoints, release conditions, delivery responsibilities and how changes are handled.
